Carbon Rock Board explained: A1 fire rating, finishes and where it fits

Our flagship panel is rated A1 for fire, comes in over a hundred finishes and is sold by the board. Here is what that means in a real room.

Carbon Rock Board panels in marble and stone finishes stacked and leaning

Carbon Rock Board is the panel we specify most, and the one trade customers order on its own. It is a rigid composite board with a mineral core and a decorative face, supplied at £232 a board.

What A1 actually means

A1 is the top classification in the European reaction-to-fire standard: no contribution to fire. That matters in flats, in HMOs, in hotels and in any escape route, and it is the reason the board turns up in commercial specifications where a timber-backed panel would be refused.

It is worth checking the certificate rather than the marketing on any panel you compare it against. A1 and Class 1 are not the same thing.

The finish range

Marble and stone, wood grain, brushed and mirrored metal, fluted profiles and solid colours, in over a hundred finishes. Because the face is printed and coated rather than veneered, the pattern repeat is controlled and two boards ordered a year apart still match.

For a feature wall, most people mix two: a stone or marble field with a fluted or metal accent inside the niches.

Where it fits

Living room feature walls, media wall faces, bathroom and kitchen splashbacks with a moisture-resistant specification, reception areas, and lift lobbies. It cuts with a track saw, fixes to a batten or an aluminium frame, and joins with matching trims.

We supply it to homeowners, joiners, designers and trade, by the board, UK-wide.
