Smart wall pricing, explained
There are no hidden calculations. Your smart wall is priced on its area: the width of the modules you compose, multiplied by the fixed 2,100mm height, at £980 per square metre excluding VAT. A 100mm installation margin is subtracted from your entered wall width before the layout is planned, and accessories, matching finish boards, installation and delivery are itemised on top.
The formula
smart wall width × 2.1m × £980/m² (ex VAT)
The smart wall width is the sum of your modules — not the raw wall measurement — so you only pay for the wall you build.
Worked example
A 3,600mm wall with a TV: after the 100mm margin, a symmetric 600 + 1,000 + 1,000 + 600mm layout gives a 3,200mm smart wall.
6.72m² × £980 = £6,585.60 ex VAT
The leftover width either side can stay as painted wall or be filled with matching boards — your choice, one tap in the builder.
- Gap-fill boards
- £120/m² supply, plus £90/m² fitting (including bonding adhesive) when installation is selected.
- Accessories
- Sound, lighting, power, smart panels, switches and shelving are individually priced line items — placed and counted on the canvas.
- VAT
- All rates above exclude VAT. The builder's itemised quote shows the ex-VAT subtotal, VAT and total at every step.

Installation, in hours not weeks
Smart walls are pre-engineered offsite and arrive as finished modules, so a typical living room installation completes in hours. Fitting is optional — choose supply-only in the builder and the quote reprices instantly — and is priced simply by the number of modules in your design.
Installation costs do not include repairs, alterations, or removal of existing electrical sockets. Systems over 6 modules must be priced individually — please contact us.
Delivery cost is £165 ex VAT and depends on travelling time and travelling distance.
| Modules | Installation (ex VAT) |
|---|---|
| 2 modules | £385 |
| 3 modules | £425 |
| 4 modules | £465 |
| 5 modules | £495 |
| 6 modules | £555 |
Frequently asked questions
How is a living room smart wall priced?
Smart wall pricing is area-based: the smart wall width multiplied by the fixed 2,100mm height, at £980 per square metre excluding VAT. Accessories, matching finish boards for any remaining wall area, optional installation and delivery are itemised separately, and VAT is calculated on the final total. The builder shows the full itemised breakdown live as you design.
Why is 100mm subtracted from my wall width?
A 100mm installation margin is automatically subtracted from your entered wall width. This tolerance lets the pre-engineered modules be positioned and fixed accurately on site, so your layout is planned against the usable width rather than the raw wall measurement.
My wall is narrower than 2,900mm — can I still have a built-in TV?
Yes. Walls under 2,900mm with a TV use an engineered compact configuration built from the two 1,000mm centre modules, without side modules — side modules aren't recommended below that width. The builder applies this automatically and shows a note on the canvas.
What are side modules for?
Side modules are used to house shelving with lighting or a speaker. If you don't need shelving or sound in a side unit, a symmetric centre-only layout may be more appropriate. Side modules come in 400mm, 600mm and 800mm widths, and the planner prefers wider modules first for a balanced look.
How many modules can a smart wall have?
A standard smart wall uses between 2 and 6 modules. A TV or fireplace always sits across two 1,000mm centre modules, with side modules added either side as your wall width allows. Walls needing more than 6 modules are priced individually — please contact us.
Why do active speaker systems need two side modules?
Active smart wall speakers are physically housed in the side modules — one on each side of the centre feature — so any active speaker configuration requires 2 side modules. On narrower walls, choose a Soundbar or Central Speaker system instead; the builder only offers active speakers once both side modules are in place.
What happens to the wall either side of the smart wall?
Any remaining wall width beside the smart wall can be covered with decorative boards in the same finish selected for the smart wall. Board supply is £120 per square metre ex VAT, with fitting at £90 per square metre (including bonding adhesive) when you opt in to installation. In the builder, open “Cover remaining wall” or tap the remaining area on the canvas to include or remove the matching boards.
How tall is a smart wall?
The smart wall itself is a fixed 2,100mm — a standard UK specification. If your room is taller, the wall above the smart wall simply remains as painted wall. Your room height only affects how the design is drawn to scale; it never changes module sizing or pricing.
Can I have a large horizontal shelf across the centre?
Yes — when no TV or fireplace is selected, the two central 1,000mm modules are free, so a large horizontal shelf can span them for a clean, functional display surface. Selecting a TV or fireplace removes this option, because the centre modules are then occupied.
Can I add a decorative wall panel alongside a TV or fireplace?
A wall panel alongside a centre feature needs a dedicated side module to house it, which requires a minimum wall width of 2,500mm — the two 1,000mm centre modules plus a 400mm side module and the 100mm installation margin.
What does “Custom configuration — subject to survey” mean?
If you hand-compose a layout that differs from the planner's recommended configurations, your quote is marked as a custom configuration and confirmed by survey before manufacture. Pricing still updates live as you build — the survey simply verifies your wall can accommodate the custom arrangement.
Do you install, and what does installation cost?
Professional installation is optional and priced by module count — from £385 ex VAT for a 2-module wall to £555 ex VAT for 6 modules. Smart walls are pre-engineered offsite and typically installed in hours. Installation costs do not include repairs, alterations or removal of existing electrical sockets. Delivery is £165 ex VAT and depends on travelling time and distance.
